Where To Swim In Iceland: Planning A Trip

Iceland is not for the faint-hearted. But it is a fantastic destination for lovers of the great outdoors who can handle a bit of fire and ice.

At the top of this post is a night shot of the Blue Lagoon, probably Iceland’s best-known swimming spot. I would so love to leap right into that steamy water!

There are plenty of places to swim in this northern island in the Atlantic.

Here you will find links to some articles with the best of the best pools and hot springs. Plus info on a cool Iceland website for swimmers.

The gorgeous photos here are from the Icelandic Tourism Authority whose website Inspired by Iceland is a great first stop when investigating a trip.

There’s a page about swimming pools and spas on the Inspired by Iceland website here.

The Lonely Planet website has some excellent articles to fire up your enthusiasm.

10 of Iceland’s Best Pools

Iceland’s Best Hot Springs

I loved an article on the Outdoor Swimming Society website called ICELANDโ€™S BEST HOT POTS AND POOLS by Kate Rew.

on the same website is the terrific article 60 SWIMS ACROSS ICELAND by Laura Hall.

Also, check out the website Sundlaugar.is which lists swimming pools, swimming lessons and hot springs throughout Iceland. You can click to read it in English if your Icelandic is rusty.

Find Lonely Planet’s range of guides to Iceland here.

There are many open-air swimming pools right beside the sea, amongst the most wonderful scenery.

Iceland can be a super expensive place to visit but everyone I have ever met says it is well worth the savings up they did for their visit to Iceland.

Below you can see Myvatn Nature Baths, where you can swim, steam and eat. These Baths are in the Lake Myvatn Geothermal area in the north of Iceland. Most appealing.
